Marinduque Farmers Get a Helping Hand from DAR

Boac, Marinduque – Thirty-three farmers' organizations in Marinduque province received a significant boost to their agricultural operations thanks to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR). A distribution event held at the Marinduque State University Tampus Campus in Boac town on April 23, saw the handover of vital equipment and organic plant supplements designed to enhance productivity and promote sustainable farming practices.

DAR MIMAROPA Regional Director Marvin Bernal spearheaded the distribution, emphasizing the agency's commitment to supporting agrarian reform beneficiaries and strengthening the agricultural sector in the region. The comprehensive package included 14 multi-tilling machines, three hand tractors, eight water pumps, 20 grass cutters, and a substantial 2,350 packs of organic plant supplements.

Why This Support Matters

The provision of these resources is aimed at addressing key challenges faced by local farmers. Multi-tilling machines and hand tractors will improve land preparation efficiency, reducing labor costs and allowing farmers to cultivate larger areas. Water pumps are essential for irrigation, particularly during dry spells, ensuring a consistent water supply for crops. Grass cutters will help manage weeds and maintain healthy farmlands. Critically, the organic plant supplements are a move towards sustainable agriculture, promoting healthier crops and reducing reliance on synthetic fertilizers.

DAR's Ongoing Commitment

“This distribution is part of DAR’s broader mandate to empower agrarian reform beneficiaries and uplift their socio-economic status,” explained Regional Director Bernal. “We believe that by providing farmers with the necessary tools and resources, we can contribute to increased agricultural yields, improved livelihoods, and a more resilient farming community.”

The event was met with enthusiastic appreciation from the recipient organizations, who expressed their gratitude for DAR's support. They anticipate that the new equipment and supplements will significantly improve their farming operations and contribute to increased income and food security in Marinduque.

Looking Ahead

DAR MIMAROPA continues to implement various programs and initiatives aimed at supporting agrarian reform beneficiaries and promoting sustainable agricultural development. The agency is committed to working closely with local communities to identify their needs and provide tailored solutions that address their specific challenges. The success of this distribution event highlights the importance of government support in empowering farmers and fostering a thriving agricultural sector in the Philippines.
