Didcot Town Council is issuing a plea to the community, urging individuals to cease feeding the birds due to escalating health hazards and an unsustainable population of geese.

For years, many residents have enjoyed the tradition of feeding the ducks and geese at Ladygrove Lake. However, the council has observed a significant increase in the number of birds congregating in the area, directly linked to the readily available food provided by well-meaning individuals. This influx has created a cascade of negative consequences, prompting the council’s intervention.

The Health Hazard: The primary concern revolves around the increased volume of droppings. A larger bird population naturally leads to a greater accumulation of waste, posing potential health risks to both humans and the lake's ecosystem. Unsustainable Goose Population: Beyond the immediate health concerns, the council also highlights the issue of an unsustainable goose population.
