Ethiopia Invests in Water Technology Expertise Through Expanded Training

The Ethiopian Water Technology Institute (EWTI) is significantly expanding its capacity building programs across the nation, aiming to bolster expertise in water technology at both national and regional levels. This initiative, spearheaded by Director General Tamene Hailu, comes as Ethiopia faces increasing challenges related to water resource management, climate change, and sustainable development.

Speaking to the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), Hailu highlighted the Institute's commitment to providing practical and effective training. EWTI’s programs are designed to equip professionals and technicians with the skills and knowledge needed to address critical issues such as water scarcity, irrigation efficiency, water quality control, and the development of appropriate water technologies for diverse Ethiopian contexts.

A Multi-faceted Approach to Capacity Building

The expanded programs encompass a range of training modalities, including:

• Short Courses and Workshops: Targeted at specific skill gaps and emerging challenges in the water sector.

EWTI is strategically partnering with regional bureaus of water and irrigation, universities, and other relevant organizations to tailor training programs to meet the specific needs of each region.
