Masidi: Don't Let Isolated Incidents Diminish Sabah's Patriotism
KOTA KINABALU - Sabah's Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, has urged Sabahans not to shy away from proudly displaying their patriotism, even in the wake of recent isolated incidents involving the disrespectful flying of the national flag, Jalur Gemilang. He emphasized that these isolated acts should not deter Sabahans from expressing their love and loyalty to Malaysia.
“We shouldn’t allow a few misguided individuals to dampen the spirit of patriotism among Sabahans,” Masidi stated firmly. “The Jalur Gemilang represents our nation’s sovereignty, unity, and the sacrifices made to achieve independence. It's a symbol we should all cherish and celebrate.”
The recent incidents, where the Jalur Gemilang was flown upside down, sparked concerns and outrage among many Malaysians. While condemning these disrespectful actions, Masidi stressed the importance of not generalizing and penalizing the entire population of Sabah. “The actions of a few should not define the sentiments of an entire community,” he clarified.
He further added that the government is taking the necessary steps to address these isolated cases and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. However, he cautioned against allowing these incidents to create division and mistrust within the country.
Masidi's message comes at a time when national pride and unity are particularly important. He believes that fostering a strong sense of patriotism among all Malaysians, including those in Sabah, is crucial for the country's continued progress and stability. He encouraged Sabahans to continue flying the Jalur Gemilang with pride, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to Malaysia.
“Let us not be intimidated by those who seek to undermine our national identity. Let us instead stand tall and proudly proclaim our love for Malaysia,” Masidi concluded, reinforcing the message of unity and patriotism for all Sabahans.
The Minister’s statement has been widely welcomed by Sabahans, many of whom have expressed their commitment to upholding the values of patriotism and national unity. Social media platforms have been flooded with posts celebrating the Jalur Gemilang and reaffirming support for Malaysia.
