Johor Duo Busted for Motorcycle Petrol Theft - Residents Warned to Secure Fuel

GELANG PATAH: Two individuals, a Pakistani man and a Malaysian woman, have been apprehended by Johor police in connection with a series of motorcycle petrol thefts at an apartment complex in Tanjung Kupang. The arrest, made by Iskandar Puteri police, comes after residents reported increasingly frequent instances of fuel being siphoned from their parked motorcycles.

According to Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumar, police acted on a tip-off and swiftly located the suspects. “We received reports from several residents in the Tanjung Kupang area complaining about their motorcycles being targeted for petrol theft. Our investigations led us to these two individuals,” he stated during a press conference.

The suspects are believed to have been operating within the apartment complex, targeting motorcycles parked in public areas. The method involved siphoning petrol directly from the fuel tanks, causing inconvenience and financial loss to the victims. The value of the stolen petrol is currently being assessed, but police estimate it to be a significant amount over the period of the thefts.

Police Investigation and Charges

Both suspects have been detained and are currently being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. If convicted, they face a jail term and a fine.

“We are currently gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the full extent of their activities,” added Asst Comm M. Kumar. “We urge residents to be vigilant and take precautions to protect their belongings, especially motorcycles.”

Resident Safety Advice

Following this incident, local authorities are advising residents in Tanjung Kupang and throughout Johor to take preventative measures to safeguard their motorcycles from theft. These include:

  • Parking in well-lit areas: Choose parking spots that are visible and have adequate lighting.
  • Using fuel locks: Consider installing a fuel lock or valve that prevents petrol from being siphoned.
  • Reporting suspicious activity: Immediately report any suspicious individuals or activity to the police.
  • Securing motorcycles: Ensure motorcycles are properly secured with locks and alarms.

The police are committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of residents. They encourage anyone with information regarding the petrol theft incidents to come forward and assist with the investigation. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and proactive security measures.
