Chan Sow Lin LRT Derailment: Task Force Formed, Services Resume June 3

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 – Transport Minister Anthony Loke has announced the formation of an independent task force to investigate the derailment of a Light Rail Transit (LRT) train at the Chan Sow Lin station yesterday. He also confirmed that LRT services are expected to resume on June 3.

Minister Loke stated that the derailed train will be hoisted and removed from the station today. The incident occurred yesterday, impacting LRT operations along the affected line. No injuries were reported as a result of the derailment, according to initial reports.

The independent task force will be responsible for a thorough investigation into the cause of the derailment. Its findings and recommendations will be made public following the completion of the investigation. This move aims to ensure transparency and accountability in determining the factors that led to the incident and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The resumption of LRT services on June 3 is contingent on the successful removal of the derailed train and the completion of necessary safety checks and repairs to the tracks and signalling systems. Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, the operator of the LRT system, is working closely with relevant authorities to expedite the recovery process and minimise disruption to commuters. Passengers are advised to monitor updates from Prasarana and the Transport Ministry regarding service resumption and alternative transportation options.

The Chan Sow Lin LRT station is a key interchange station on the Kelana Jaya Line, serving a large number of commuters daily. The derailment has caused significant inconvenience to the public, and authorities are prioritising the swift restoration of services.
