ATU Welding & Innovation Centre Gets Major Upgrade Thanks to Design & Technology Institute
Accra, Ghana – Accra Technical University (ATU) is set to benefit from enhanced practical training opportunities following a significant refurbishment and upgrade of its Welding Demonstration Centre and Innovation Hub. The project, spearheaded by the Design & Technology Institute (DTI), was officially handed over to ATU in a ceremony marking a new era for technical education in Ghana.
The DTI’s investment represents a commitment to bridging the skills gap between academia and industry, ensuring that ATU graduates are well-equipped to meet the demands of the modern workforce. The upgraded facility boasts state-of-the-art welding equipment, advanced technology, and a redesigned layout to foster innovation and collaboration among students and faculty.
“This collaboration with ATU is a pivotal step in our mission to transform technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Ghana,” stated a spokesperson for the DTI. “We believe that practical, hands-on training is crucial for building a skilled workforce that can drive economic growth and competitiveness.”
The refurbishment includes:
- Modern Welding Equipment: The centre is now equipped with the latest welding machines and tools, allowing students to learn and practice various welding techniques to industry standards.

ATU’s Vice-Chancellor expressed his gratitude to the DTI for their generous support, highlighting the transformative impact the upgrade will have on the university’s welding program. “This investment will significantly enhance the quality of our training and empower our students to excel in the welding industry,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring that our graduates are job-ready and contribute to Ghana’s industrial development.”
