India Sees No Spike in Respiratory Illnesses: Health Ministry Issues Advisory on HMPV Prevention
The Union Health Ministry has reported no significant surge in respiratory illnesses across the country, but has advised states to bolster awareness campaigns on preventive measures against Human Meta-Pneumovirus (HMPV). As a precautionary measure, the Ministry has also recommended that states enhance their Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) surveillance systems to effectively manage and track respiratory illnesses. By strengthening these measures, the government aims to minimize the spread of HMPV and other respiratory viruses, ensuring public health and safety. Key strategies include promoting good hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing and wearing masks, especially in crowded areas.
