The nation's favourite crafting competition, The Great British Sewing Bee, is back on our screens! Following a brief hiatus, the show returned last week with the ever-charming Sara Pascoe stepping back into her role as host after her maternity leave. Her opening look – a delightfully eccentric, cloud-inspired outfit – was a visual treat, setting a playful tone for the series ahead.

However, amidst the flurry of fabric, needles, and thread, a familiar absence was keenly felt: that of the beloved Kiell Smith-Bynoe. Kiell, who served as a judge for three seasons (series 5-7), brought a unique blend of humour, expertise, and genuine enthusiasm to the show. His insightful critiques, coupled with his infectious laugh, were a highlight for many viewers.

However, the dynamic between the judges is crucial to the show’s success, and Kiell’s absence is noticeable. While the current panel (Esmeé Fairbairn and Patrick Grant) are both highly respected figures in the fashion world, the chemistry just isn't quite the same without Kiell's playful energy.

Looking Ahead

The Great British Sewing Bee remains a delightful and inspiring show. The creativity and skill on display are truly remarkable, and the contestants’ journeys are captivating to watch. But for many viewers, the show feels a little less vibrant without Kiell Smith-Bynoe. We can only hope that he might return to the panel in the future and once again sprinkle his sparkle on the competition.
