Webb County & UISD Partner to Boost Mental Health Support for Students & Staff

Laredo, TX – United ISD (UISD) and Webb County are joining forces this May to spotlight Mental Health Awareness Month, launching a series of free programs and counseling initiatives designed to support the well-being of students and staff across all UISD schools. Recognizing the increasing importance of mental health, this collaborative effort aims to destigmatize seeking help and provide accessible resources for everyone within the district.
“The mental health of our students and staff is paramount to their success, both academically and personally,” stated UISD Superintendent Dr. Sylvia Rios. “This partnership with Webb County demonstrates our commitment to providing a supportive and nurturing environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to prioritize their well-being.”
Webb County Judge Mario Villarreal echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the county’s dedication to fostering a community that prioritizes mental health. “We understand the challenges our community faces, and by working alongside UISD, we can significantly expand access to vital mental health resources for our young people and the dedicated professionals who support them.”
What's on Offer?
The joint initiative includes a range of programs, including:
- Free Counseling Services: Licensed therapists will be available at select UISD campuses, offering individual and group counseling sessions. These services are completely free of charge to students and staff.
- Mental Health Workshops: Interactive workshops will be conducted throughout May, covering topics such as stress management, anxiety reduction, and building resilience. These workshops are open to students, staff, and even parents.
- Awareness Campaigns: Throughout the month, UISD and Webb County will launch awareness campaigns across social media and school platforms, sharing information about mental health resources and promoting open conversations.
- Resource Fairs: Community resource fairs will be held at various locations, connecting individuals with local mental health organizations and support groups.
Addressing a Growing Need
The demand for mental health services, particularly among young people, has been steadily increasing. UISD and Webb County recognize the importance of proactively addressing this need and providing timely support to those who are struggling.
“Early intervention is key,” explained [Name of Mental Health Professional from UISD/Webb County]. “By providing accessible resources and fostering a culture of openness, we can help students and staff develop coping mechanisms, build resilience, and seek help when needed.”
