Olivia Ansell, the former Director of Sydney Festival, has unveiled her inaugural program as Director of Toronto’s Luminato Festival, and it’s brimming with exciting new experiences – including a distinct touch of Australian artistry. What’s particularly noteworthy is the inclusion of several compelling Australian works, reflecting Ansell's deep connection to and appreciation for the Australian arts landscape.

One of the highlights is THAW, a truly remarkable and visually arresting piece featuring a massive 2.7-tonne block of ice. This ambitious work, brought to Luminato directly from Australia, explores themes of climate change and the fragility of our environment in a powerfully symbolic way. The sheer scale of the ice block, coupled with the performance element, creates a captivating and unforgettable experience for audiences.

Beyond THAW, Ansell’s program includes a selection of other Australian artists and productions, demonstrating her commitment to showcasing a global perspective.
